Smooth Over

I've been looking for a smoothing system that is safe for my client as well as myself and one that works and last. I have found one that seems to be the winner!

Kenra Smooth eliminates that dreadful frizz in your hair but it's free of formaldehydes. (That's the ingredient in most other smoothing systems that was very harmful to breathe in-not good!) It gets rid of up to 99 percent of curl and frizz with the first use while protecting hair from damage. Um, sign me up!! I hate that I can't wear my hair au naturale. In other words, I always have to curl or flat iron my hair because it is just one hot, frizzy mess!

Kenra Smooth last 60 shampoos and is the only smoothing system that can be washed or colored immediately after. No waiting 48-72 hrs after the service to wash it again! Also if you need to touch up your color, we can do it immediately following the smoothing application. Ah-mazing!

Here are some photos I have found on the Kenra site of some real before and afters:

Now I'm assuming that all of the ones with super curly hair still have to use a flat iron to get rid of ALL the curl but it is a lot more manageable! If you are thinking that this is something that you want done, book an appointment with me. The first 3 to get on my books will get a discounted rate!! Hurry!

Free Spirit

This summer I've been loving headbands! There's quite a few ways to wear them! I've worn different ones several times at the salon. I always get compliments and asked where I get my headband. I do have one older lady that always comes in when I'm wearing one and says, "Oh you are Indian today" and I never know how to reply! Haha!  Anyway...you can get them pretty much anywhere hair stuff is sold. There are several trendy ones I have found at Forever 21.  Here's a few ways you can wear them...

Even celebrities are rockin these trends...

Fun huh?! Well I hope everyone is having a great summer! I know I am! A few weekends ago my family and I went to Gavins Point Dam to camp and fish. We all had a lot of fun! It even put my dad back in the camping spirit! I see more family camping outings in our future!! =)

Gangster Updated

Ladies go grab your guys....this post is for them!! I've been noticing a lot lately the new trend for men. It reminds me of old hollywood. The sides are shorter and the top is longer with a deep side part and combed over to one side with lots of product. I've done it a few times and it always looks good on them! Here are a few examples:

Even the Biebs is doing it!! Okay, I think I lost some people here!

How about I post one more picture of David Beckham...

And we're back! =) If your guy is looking for a new do or you're wanting him to change up his hair, (cuz he's had the same one since high school!) push him in this direction!

Waterfall Braid

It's that season again...Wedding Season! If you are like me, you have a billion weddings to go to this year! I love em tho. It's a time to get all dolled up and spend time with the hubby and great friends! I love getting glammed up and finding new ways to wear my hair. One way that seems to be becoming more popular is the waterfall braid. It's a new way to braid the top of your hair and let your hair flow and blend into the bottom part of your hair. Wear it curled and it's a pretty do for those formal events.

Here's how you do it:

If you try it, send me pictures!! Much love! =)

Lasting Manicure

Hello again!! Sorry it's been so long since I've blogged! I've been busy busy!

Well I thought since it's "Mani Monday", I would do a nail polish post. I found this trick on Pinterest and couldn't wait to try it. I've done it a couple times now and I love it! It's a budget friendly way to get shellac type nails. Now, it's not as long lasting as shellac but if it can get me through a week without chipping and at a fraction of the cost, I'm all in! When I get a shellac done at the salon, it will usually last me a good 2 or 3 weeks. I do love getting it done, but I'm a girl and I get bored of the same color week after week. So since I can do this at home and it lasts me about a week, this is perfect for me. (You may get longer wear out of the manicure than I do. My hands are constantly in water and chemicals.)  Okay, so here is what you need:

~ Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat (this is the key to the whole mani!) I got mine at Sally's for only $4.99!

~Any nail polish color

~Top Coat (my favorite is CND Air Dry)

~A polish dryer if needed (I love CND SolarSpeed Spray)

Now let me start by saying, again, this is not going to be exactly like a shellac or gel manicure. There is no UV light needed either. This is a cheap and easy alternative to the salon manicures! Here is how to do it...

~Start with the Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat and apply a thin layer of it.

~Allow coat to dry for a few minutes and then apply a second coat.

~Let the second coat dry.

~Apply one coat of your nail polish color and let dry for a few minutes.

~After the color has dried, apply another coat of the Gelous Advanced Nail Gel and let dry.

~Apply your second coat of your polish color and let dry again.

~After that has finished drying, apply your top coat!

~After a minute, spray your nails with SolarSpeed Spray and you are good to go!

It may take a little longer than your normal, one coat base, 2 coats polish and one coat top coat. But this will last so much longer!! Also another tip is to make sure when applying each coat to you get the tip of each nail. This will help it to not chip!! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! =)

Happy Mani Monday!!

Here's a picture of the Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat:

The finished product! (I'll post pictures of how it looks after working later in the week!)

I figured since it has been awhile since I've last posted, I would post a few pics of what I've been up to lately!

My hubby and I at a friends wedding. Isn't he handsome?!

The gorgeous bride and my friend Kim

The beautiful couple! The dress was stunning on her!
(Abby & Skylar, I wish you both nothing but happiness in your life together!)

My friend Kim and I at the wedding

My first updo of the season!

Don't tell my husband, but this is a picture of me and my boyfriend Brody! How cute is he?!

Well until next time... (I promise it won't be as long this time!!) Much love!!

Oh NO!

I'm sure most of you have already seen this video, but I couldn't help but post it for those who haven't seen it! This post is a What Not To Do! This poor girl is trying to do a video tutorial on how to curl hair. (Please Dear God, do not let one of my videos turn out like hers! Amen!)  So, the things that she could have possible done to make her hair fry off are...

  • She left the curling iron on waaay too long. (Do not count to 20! Don't count in general!) Like I said in a video before, if your hair is warm, your hair is curled!
  • The temperature on her curling iron might be set too high. If it's on the highest setting, make sure the time your hair is on the iron is very short!
  • The hair is still slightly damp. You can fry your hair if you do not have all the moisture out of it. So make sure you blow dry your hair all that way! If your hair is cold right after you take the blow dryer off it, it's still a lil wet.
  • Last but definitely not least. She didn't use a protective spray. Use professional products people!!! I'm sure you all know this by now but Kenra's Hot Spray is my fav product. It protects the hair from the heat of the irons! USE IT! Oh and do not use regular hair spray- this could fry the hair also!
Use these little tips so that this does not happen to you! There is nothing worse than a bad hair day that lasts for a year when your hair finally grows out!

Silky Smooth

I love trying new products all the time! My husband is constantly complaining that I have way too much in the shower. He tells me I'm a product hoarder. I like to think of it as research for my career! I mean it really is!! Well two Fridays ago I went to the supply house for hair color and at the check out there were some new It's A Ten products. Now if you haven't tried It's A Ten yet, you are missing out! It started off as a great leave in conditioner product and now they have much more. Every product I have tried from them I have loved so when I saw a new purple bottle, I knew I had to try it! It's called Silk Express and it does just that... It helps make your smooth, silky and soft! It's amazing stuff.

I brought it into the salon on Saturday and had all the other girls use it. They were just as obsessed as I was! There were some ladies I used it on and didn't even use my flat iron! (Side note- I did use a round brush! If you have texture in your hair, you will still have to use a hot iron to get it smooth- it's not magic!) I have been using the miracle silk trio; shampoo, conditioner and the smoothing balm for 2 weeks now and my hair feels amazing! You definitely need to try it! The best part is this trio is on sale for the rest of February for only $40! YES all 3 for $40!! You better come in and get em before they're gone!  =)

Want Long Hair?

I have been getting asked quite a bit lately on how to make your hair grow. There a few things that COULD help but are not guaranteed. One of them is prenatal vitamins. (No, they will not make you get pregnant if you take them!) There is also a vitamin that is designed for hair, skin and nails. It's called Biotin. You can get it from any supermarket in the vitamin aisle. No prescription here. The only thing with Biotin is you have to take one pill, three times a day. I have a hard time remembering to take one, once a day, so three times is pretty hard to remember! If you are serious about growing your hair long, and want to do it faster, try it. It could help!

Another thing that you should know is that getting your hair cut once a month or often, will NOT help it grow. This is a myth! If your ends are horrible, you can trim those up, but getting your hair cut all the time basically does the opposite of growing it. Your hair only grows 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch a month. That's not a lot. So as much as I hate to say it, if you are wanting to grow your hair long, don't come to see me as much! I'll miss you, but we will get you that long hair that you are wanting!!

Now make sure you are using professional products to ensure that your hair will stay in great shape since you won't be coming in to see me as often!

On a side note... Happy happy lovey dovey day to y'all! I hope everyone has a wonderful day!!

Uphair Twist

I absolutely love doing my hair so it looks like I've spent quite some time on it, but I really haven't. This updo took me maybe 10-15 minutes to do all together. It's a great style that you can wear running errands or going to a formal event.

Watch how I did it here:

Trendy Nails

I love looking for new trends in the beauty world. One of the hottest new trends is filing your fingernails to a point. I'm actually loving it right now! It's always fun to do different things as I started getting bored with the square looking nails.  Haven't you? Have you seen any of your favorite celebs rockin these nails? Reading my weekly gossip magazines (don't knock them, you know you read em too!), I'm seeing picture after picture of these ladies with the new nails. Here are some of the pics I've seen.

I need to grow mine a little longer, but I started to do it! What do you think of the new nail trend?
